Tom Rhiel, Partner
Tom Rhiel is a partner in mEnterprise Solutions a consultancy providing strategic business services. Prior to joining mES Tom was the founder of Performance Innovations Consulting Group, Inc., a consultancy specializing in change management and cultural transformation. Before becoming an independent company, Performance Innovations was initially an entrepreneurial venture organized under the leadership of Tom as a professional services consulting division of Lucent Technologies. Tom subsequently became the Managing Partner of this group. The mission at that time was to assist organizations in managing the change resulting from large technology and systems implementations. Performance Innovations became a separate company in 2001.
Tom is a former executive of AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya. In 1986 he moved from operations into the AT&T corporate training and organizational development arena. During his tenure, he played a key role in the cultural evolution of those companies. Tom led many of the cultural integration efforts that resulted from a number of mergers and acquisitions made by AT&T, Lucent and Avaya. In addition to his expertise in change management, Tom has also worked extensively in the areas of training and development, development/analysis and implementation of assessment instruments, organizational and team effectiveness, strategic planning, development of business metrics and measurements, cultural transformation activities and organizational development and design. Tom is certified in change management from MOC.
During his corporate career he was responsible for creating an innovative approach to measuring the effectiveness of training that became the standard for Lucent's Global Learning Solutions. This involved developing a hybrid level 3-4 instrument that combined transference of knowledge to actual job situations with ROI on the training investment. He has presented this methodology a number of times at conferences held by the International Quality and Productivity Forum.
As a member of the executive team developing a Balanced Score Card for Lucent he moved the company away from using a traditional employee attitude survey to deploying an instrument that measured the overall health and vitality of the company in key strategic areas.
An avid kayaker, Tom is a volunteer with Team River Runner, an adaptive rehabilitative non-profit that works with injured military veterans by teaching then whitewater paddling skills to help restore a sense of physical accomplishment for individuals who have sustained life-altering injuries.
